Biography
So why was it that three very different people connected like this musically? Who knows, but the world will be grateful they did. It doesn’t happen often but every now and then a group of songwriters come along that will make a difference to the airwaves and become entrenched into music lovers’ minds. IVORY is the band that will do all that. Melody, rhythm, power, strength – its all there. Perhaps the years of performing with the Australian Welsh Male Choir helped shape ‘the voice’ of Ken, or was it the night after night covering other drummers’ styles that made Gordon the hard hitter (or is that mad hatter?) and Nicole on bass - just is, the demon of the female realm!
To paraphrase Australia’s legendary band AC/DC, if you want rock you’ve got it.
IVORY are very much an Australian rock band, each member being born in a different state but all spending the past few years in Melbourne, Victoria, sifting through the sea of musicians until they found each other. Ken’s guitar power is of his own soul and yet you can hear the influences of past and present musicians like Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), David Gilmore (Pink Floyd) or Tom Morello (Audioslave). Not to mention the powerful set of pipes reminiscent of Robert Plant, Bruce Dickinson or even our very own John Farnham. Gordon (“Nads” – don’t ask!) cites influences such as Phil Rudd (AC/DC), Matt Sorum (G’n’R) and Peter Criss (Kiss) for his live and loud approach on the sticks, whilst Sheryl Crow, Melissa Auf Der Maur (Hole) and Stephanie Ashworth (Melbourne’s Something for Kate) are amongst those responsible for Nikki closing the piano lid to concentrate on pounding the fretboard of her Fender P Bass Guitar.
These three characters together make the unique and exciting IVORY. They love it loud, they love it live and you’ll love IVORY. Check ‘em out...
