The Band
Move over Red hot chilli peppers it's time to pass the crown, After
successful stints around Europe and America the man with the voice, Paul
Morena is back to his hometown of Chelmsford to form a band to record a
collection of new songs. With Local guitar hero Paul Stevens, who many
will know from the band Empathy and his work with Trace Elliot and
Fellow ex band mate Steve Wilson putting down the funk on the drums, the
line up was finally completed by funk bass Cardinal Tim Jackson
(Formally of GLASS and Triggerfish)
“We've been hard at work in the studio and now we're really looking
forward to playing live on Thursday 19th September 2002 at the Oliver
Twist, Colchester. I've played all over the world from busking in the
early days to clubs and festivals and it's really honed my voice and my
song writing.” Tim and Paul have done loads of the same kinda stuff so
that really helped to get things going, as for the drum god Steve, he is
just perfect !
At only 26 the ex-St John Payne pupil describes the bands musical style
as: “Jeff Buckley meets The Chilli Peppers in a late night diner served
by Muse.” If you also throw in that Mr Morena has the sultry good looks
of ‘Jim Morrison’, and the stage antics that bassist Tim gets up to are,
well in the vain of Flea (Chilli peppers) you've got a combination of
sex appeal, passion and compelling, well written songs.
I've been playing locally since I was 12 and have been in bands for
years, those who knew me in the early days will be
surprised how the music's developed. It's out of the Indie groove to
being far more on the edge as a result of the punk funk thing Tim is in
to and the melodic yet groove fuelled stuff both Paul and Steve have
made their own in songs such as “I Want Your Head” and “What a View.”
Why won't Paolo be playing at V2002? “Well we couldn't very well clash
with the pre-V gig at the Army could we?” He joked.
“In truth they didn't bloody ask us!” Maybe next year if the band
doesn't get signed and Paolo isn't asked to star in
a Hollywood blockbuster. “Movies are fine, but music is our career and
we're serious about it. It's a great band with some kick ass songs and
we're really going for it.”So come along and hear some serious
contenders and have a great night out.....Music like this shapes generations.
