A DRUMMERS RIFF

SRM Percussion is the only place in Peterborough with total drum fever and is run by Dave Heaney and Thorin Dixon who recognised the need for such a place. Until now drummers in the area have had to pay above the odds from various music shops or trek out of town just for that new hi-hat clutch, second hand crash cymbal or new drum skin.

SRM Percussion is not just a shop full of all things percussion based but they are looking to fulfill a variety of activities and workshops to keep it’s local drummers amused in the coming year. To kick-start these types of events S.R.M are putting on a drum clinic with top clinicians from across the UK. For those who don’t know what a drum clinic is, it’s a showcase of solo drummers (usually sessions players) performing and experimenting with percussion. This shows onlookers the various technicalities, techniques and skills that can be used by drummers in bands and solo activities. It’s a refreshing change for all percussion lovers and music fans of all kinds.

Thursday 5th April presents:

THE MARK HEANEY DRUM CLINIC IN ASSOCIATION WITH S.R.M PERCUSSION Mark Heaney is one of the UK’s top drummers live (ex Seahorses drummer and drummer for ‘Reluctance’ new band with ex-Verve bassist Simon Jones and John Squires Of the Stone roses). Mark will be joined by top teacher, clinician and former of the drummer’s alliance TONI CANELLI and Peterborough's top teacher and clinician THORIN DIXON (Kissmet and Junk Puppets). An evening of mind blowing drumming with the UK's top players, loads of prizes to be won and an evening for all whether your an experienced drummer, a musician or music fan. Doors open 7.15pm and tickets are £8 (available from S.R.M Percussion, Unit 2, 603 Lincoln Road, PE1 3HA - Tel: 01733 314181 or 07971 595407 or by emailing us at srmpercussion@another.com). This is one of the bigger events this year bringing well recognised music industry musicians into the city for a showcase that will be one to remember.

THE SEPIA

Jack Granite here with a mini update on what's happening in Sepia land. The first thing is a nice piece of recognition in the shape of an award! The Sepia have been rated as one of the top ten artists on mPulse.com, in both the overall and 'electronic music' categories. Unfortunately the award isn't of the solid precious metal variety so they can't melt it down and sell it to buy new keyboards! Also, you can check out new reviews of The Sepia on http://www.annanova.com and http://www.electromancer.com, both very favourable!

The other exciting piece of news is that the gang had a meeting the other day to finalise the details for the imminent release of the new album, 'One'. I've been privy to the final tracklisting and I'm sure you can't wait to get hold of the finished product. New sound bites will appear on the 'hear' page of the web site soon to whet your appetite so keep checking in to http://www.the-sepia.co.uk.

Even more new equipment has been added to the studios. The talented trio were ooh-ing and ahh-ing over them so I guess they're good pieces of kit but I don't understand these things so can't give you any details!

There's no further news to report on the film work that has been mentioned so I guess no news is good news, as the saying goes. Obviously as soon as anything is confirmed I'll let you know.

a U.S. critic speaks...: "high grade indie pop rock gems accented by a sensual voice and liquid flow guitars..." according to many reviewers Red to Violet could be Holland's finest music export product! how about this U.S.A. review: "If imports like Red to Violet are any indication of a growing musical movement from Holland, then they have some high standards to meet. the Haarlem (not Harlem) duo cuts through some high grade indie pop rock gems, accented by a sensual voice and upifting message of inner peace (appropriately enough being one of the song titles) and guitars which at times seem to crystallize, yet remain an almost liquid flow in songs like "It Comes Again" and "Mother Earth." Red to Violet may be a colorful band, but unlike a lot of other artists, they're not likely to fade." music critic Omar Perez is a popular radio DJ on EyeQ radio Miami, Florida and CD reviewer on www.AltarNative.com
