MOBY (Mobile Recording Studio for the disabled)

We would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to MOBY our FREE Mobile Recording Studio project for the disabled.

I had been discussing MOBY for some time with different people, after I had so much difficulty in my own situation. I am convinced there would be a lot of interest from disabled individuals, groups, projects, and organisations wanting to make use of the facility, and we would like to hear from you all. (UK Residents only)

Our concept is in two types of operation:
1) From an HGV vehicle
2) From a Portable Cabin transported to a set location
A Sound Engineer and Nurse will be available on location

This is a major undertaking and we will need a lot of help to make it a success. If you can offer any help or advice we would love to hear from you. We need sponsors.

We'll let you know of any UK dates as soon as they are arranged.

Bands wanted for US Punk compilation

Good Cop/Bad Cop Records presents:
Scene Of The Crime
(24 Punk bands recorded in 24 hours)

That’s right, We’re gonna record 24 Punk/Ska bands in 24 Hours for a compilation that YOUR BAND NEEDS TO BE ON!

Here’s the deal:

When: To be recorded on either May 5th & 6th or May 19th & 20th (whichever works best for the most bands) Let me know what’s good for your band ASAP

Where: Big Sound Studios 40 Terminal Street Westbrook, Maine (207)856-0228 Big studio with extra rooms upstairs to get ready etc... (...and it’s Just down the street from the topless donut shop)

How: All bands will share gear! We will mike up 3 or 4 guitar amps, a drum set and bass rig. (If you have other instruments, please let us know in advance so we can be prepared.)

Each band will have 40 minutes to record one previously unreleased ORIGINAL song. NO COVERS (think of it as a live song you can overdub) You can only record one song, regardless if it takes less time (we have to budget time for Murphy’s Law...the philosophy, not the band)

Produced by: Jim Tierney, Huck Bennert & Peter Walsh
Mastered by: David Locke at JP Mastering

Building The Scene:
It’s a co-op at first. Cost is $600 per band. Each band will get 200 CD’s. They should sell for no more than $5. each. The idea is to get as many of these CD’s in the hands of the fans as quickly as possible (instead of watching them rot in the compilation section of Newbury Comics) That means 5000 people will be hearing all of our music. Each band will have ½ a page in the booklet to include lyrics, band info and Mug Shot (that will be taken at the recording session) We should then work together by booking other "Scene Of The Crime" bands on our shows whenever we can.

We are planing a July 13th release date.

We will shop this to labels as well.

Recording: Time slots for recording will be chosen on a first come first served basis. $100 non refundable deposit will be required (this is not an entry fee, we will only take a deposit once you’ve been accepted for the compilation) Hate to have to do this, but you know how bands are: "oh, something came up"! If we don’t have all the bands show up, the concept goes a little flat!

Move it along: Bands can show up one hour early and stay one hour after...but then you gotta go: there just isn’t room for 150 people to hang around. (I may try to set up a show in Portland to keep some of us busy)

Press: So far Radioboston.com has commited to covering the entire event. We also have interest from Soundcheck, Punk Magazine and Askew Reviews. There is also a film crew that is interested in doing a documentary on this major event.

Lodging: I’m gathering info on local motels etc...more info to follow.

What's happening in the world of The Sepia

No time for sleep at Sepia Villas........

1. The web site (http://www.the-sepia.co.uk) has some new sound clips to tease you with. The snippets on offer this month are 'Hallucinating', 'Stealth', 'Dominate', 'I Hear Screams', the seriously hard 'Force' and 'D20' (I have no idea what D20 means before anyone emails in! I did ask but they wouldn't tell me!)

2. Sepia HQ has been swamped with offers lately and there are currently five (yes, FIVE!) film companies chasing the trio to supply music for forthcoming productions. As soon as anything is confirmed I will, of course, let you know.

3. BBC (yes, THE BBC!) Online have been in touch to do a feature on the Sepia and this is currently being arranged.

4. 107.8 SouthCity FM radio (in the Southampton, UK area) will be showcasing The Sepia on their 'In Session' programme. Although no dates have been confirmed yet it's possible it will be very soon. The show will feature four tracks and an interview. Again, I'll let you know all the details when they're finalised.

Not exactly news but rather amusing, nonetheless - some promotional flyer postcards were printed this week and it took the gang five days to decide on a five word slogan! You can't accuse them of not paying attention to detail!

Remarkably, all this activity has not created any additional delays in the completion of the new album, 'One', and it is all still on track so you won't have to wait much longer to get your hands on it. I'll give details of when and how to buy it ASAP!
