The Derelicts become Johnny Philko

The times are a changin' and so are The Derelicts! As of Sat. April 21st 2001, we have ceased to be The Derelicts, and will now be known as "Johnny Philko".

We have changed focus and direction along with the name change. We have lightened up our image as well as our sound. We will be a socially aware / Political rock band, writing and performing songs that address social and political issues of our times. It is our hope that by bringing some of these issues to light, and discussing them, that social and political changes can be brought about to improve the living conditions for everyone.

We would also like to take this time to say goodbye to our former female vocalist, Carrie Waller, and wish her the best in her new location. Carrie had to move out of state and as such couldn't continue on with the band. We would like to introduce, and welcome Laura Mcgee to Johnny Philko. Laura has an incredible singing voice that must be heard to be believed. We are all very excited about Laura joining in with us. Stop in and check her out at one of our gigs, or get the CD. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you all for all of the previous support that The Derelicts received. We hope that you will all support us in this transition and will become involved with these issues, perhaps if enough of us work together changes can be brought about.

We will be releasing a cd of new material in the near future and hope you will enjoy it. Our new homepage is located at: http://www.JohnnyPhilko.com Please stop by, check it out and say hello. The site is new and under construction, we will be working on it furiously, to make it all it can be.

We played our debut performance as Johnny Philko, at The Maple Grove, in Maple Heights, Sat night April 21, 2001. We wanted to see how we would be accepted with the new line-up and show. It went very well, and we are now starting to book future gigs. We will keep you posted on our schedule as it develops......

May 12th, 2001 Johnny Philko will be in concert along with several other bands for a benefit concert at the Masonic Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio. This concert will benefit The Learning Centers for Children in Cleveland, Ohio. Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $15.00 the day of the show. Below is a short description of The Learn Centers for Children.

The Learning Centers provide one-on-one, specialized training and tutoring -- free of charge -- to children with dyslexia. The organization is committed to increasing public awareness and improving standards of care through research and education. In addition, each Learning Center trains local teachers and volunteers who want to tutor children with dyslexia.

If you can please stop in for the concert and help support this worthy cause. :-)

Late news from the Photon Torpedoes (Boston, USA)

I regret to inform you that if you are expecting to see the Photon Torpedoes on April 28th at the Linwood Grill, they will not be playing. I had them booked for the linwood show months ago when I found out they were getting billed for a nyc show in june or july instead of april 28th. Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication, one of the band members is unable to make it. I was unaware of this when I sent out the email with them on the bill.

Hopefully, you will still make it to the show because it promises to be a great one! The Photon Torpedoes have played many times with the Kings of Nuthin, always putting on a great show and will do so again in the future, with some new surprises! Stay tuned for that future news!

linwood grill, april 28th, 9:00, 21+, $7.00

The new billing for the Linwood Grill show is with Boston's local Mourningside, horror-hardcore band. They have got a new singer and drummer which has made some great changes for the band.

Also, on the bill is the Blind Pharoah's from New York City. They have played the Scumfest going over well with the punk and billy crowd! You will dig this hillbilly style punk band. Drummer, Jim Haas, ex-Thee Hallowteens will be here with the Blind Pharoahs.

The Skels from New Jersey are also on the bill playing Pogue style irish punk!
We welcome them back to Boston. It has been since New Years Eve when they played with Darkbuster that they have played here.

Also, headlining is The KINGS OF NUTHIN'. They have been chosen to participate in the WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble. We wish them luck with that. A June Tour is in the works for a total east coast tour from Boston to Atlanta. So if you want them to play near you, email me back and I will see if I have not gotten a date in your neighborhood already, if not, I will see if we can get one!

you can catch the Photon Torpedoes on June 22nd at the Middle East. more details to follow...other shows to be listed soon as well!

Changes to NTB bar extensions

Unfortunately the late bar extentions that we advertised for The John Bull (1AM) and The Red Lion (12AM) have been refused, so now The John Bull gig will go till 12am and The Red Lion 11pm. Both Landlords are very disappointed but I'm sure we'll still have a great time....

Never The Bride update

It's been a long time since you heard anything from us, but now we're back in the good old UK, and ready to rock!
We're home after a year in Australia, which started off touring with the Rock Symphony Orchestra alongside Roger Daltrey, Alice Cooper, Paul Rogers and Gary Brooker, as well as Australian legend Jimmy Barnes. We also had a great gig playing support to ZZ Top in Sydney.

Having returned from Australia on March 7th, we took off for Vail, Colorado to do a charity gig at The Dobson Arena for the Christopher Reeves Paralysis Foundation, once again with Roger Daltrey, Peter Frampton and Gary Brooker (Procul Harum).
It was a fantastic concert, one of three events organized that week, the others being a celebrity ski race and a special celebrity dinner and auction, attended briefly by Christopher Reeves himself.
In all, $2,000,000 was raised for his charity, and we are proud to have been a part of it. Christopher Reeves now has a Never the Bride CD in his collection!
After Colorado, we went straight to Austin Texas, where we did a song at the famous Antone's Blues Club with Jimmie Vaughan (brother of the Late Stevie Ray), and no other than Dennis Quaid guesting on guitar!
Club owner Susan Antone has invited us back to do some dates in July. Still in the USA we'll be playing at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas also in the month of July.

But now back to the UK, and our homecoming gig - we've missed you! We will be doing our first date at our 'home from home', the John Bull, Chiswick, on Friday 20th April. Entry £5 on the door - first come, first served, so don't be late - Doors open 8:30, and there will be an extension until 1AM. Support from Tammy Cline (vocalist/acoustic guitarist). LIMITED ADVANCE TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FROM THE JOHN BULL. We will have new merchandise on sale.

Guarana finish recording single

Guarana have just finished recording their second single "Outside" with Muse's sound engineer Rick Wolkers. No details have been set for release yet but we'll let you know as soon as possible. "Lullaby" was also recorded as a B-side. You can hear live versions of both these songs at the Guarana web site.

It's been a slow start to 2001 for Guarana, both Jeff and Gav's cars have died, leaving us with no transport! So hiring vans for every gig has left the band pretty much skint. Plus of course recording costs etc etc.. Arrggghh! But things are starting to brighten up at last. We've made a great roadie out of my friend Jo, and we get to use his wheels! Cheers jo! (We'll get our own van soon - honest!) So you should be hearing a lot more from Guarana very soon!! :-)
