The Thurrock Festival 2001

Tickets are on sale now for Thurrock 2001, the biggest underground music festival in south east England, at Orsett Showground, off A13, near Orsett, Essex on Saturday August 4.

Headlining on the four live stages will be Kilkus (metal), Myopia (rock), Minx (rock/indie) and Red White and Bluesy (Blues). Other acts on a line-up of around 40 bands include Trooper, Whoremoan, Reconsider, Deep River and Rodriguez Guest Project. The music is as varied as the names.
Some of the best up-and-coming DJs (including Streetboy from Kiss FM) and MCs will be playing the two dance stages - one predominantly UK garage and the other featuring underground music from around the world - and there is a chill-out area featuring urban rappers and poets. Plus the usual stalls, refreshments and bar.
"We got fed-up with all the hype surrounding the major festivals and wanted to offer good music at affordable prices - plus a decent showcase for bands to play at, " said organiser Jo Delaney.

Co-organiser Moira Stanbury added: "The bands aren't well known -yet! - but we've bands like Kilkus, whose new CD is in HMV, and Myopia, who recently supported Fun Loving Criminals. It won't be long before one of our bands makes it big and then we'll really be taken seriously."
The festival, now in its fifth year, has rapidly established itself as the place to go to see tomorrow's music today. It's a showcase for unsigned talent and, with a licence for 10,000, is an event with a select feel.
Bands and DJs come predominantly from Essex, but applications now flood in from all over the country - and, thanks to the Internet, from overseas also.

Profits go to Little Haven children's hospice in Essex, Leukaemia Research, and other local charities. There is a music room at the hospice named after the event.
Tickets cost just £5 in advance - more on the door, if available, but they expect to sell out. You can get them by phone - 01375 383961 (9am-5pm); by post - send sae to TMF, PO Box 36, Grays, Essex RM17 5BE (cheques payable to TMF); online - www.ticketbank.co.uk Under 12s free if accompanied by an adult.

There is free parking, and for those using public transport, a shuttle bus £1 each way from Grays station on the London (Fenchurch Street) -Southend line.

The Dawn Parade debut single

"FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL" - DERMOT O’LEARY

"A PERFECT BAND" - RICHARD ROSE, R*E*P*E*A*T*

Cambridge / Suffolk based gutter glam rock’n’roll band The Dawn Parade enter Norwich’s Purple Studios on Tuesday 26th June to record their debut single, set to be released through New York City Records later this year.

The Dawn Parade met New York City Records’ Susan Heyatt during their recent appearance on Trans World International’s flagship music show, “Performance”, recorded in West London in the last week of May, and showing now on the internet site MP3 TV (www.now.com/mp3tv).

The band are thrilled at the prospect of touring the UK in the autumn. Singer Greg McDonald, 21, said: “The five of us live to play gigs… we’d leave tomorrow with nothing but our guitars and the frilly shirts on our backs if we could...

Elco Jones

Due to unprecedented demand the band have added a last minute gig to an already busy schedule which we hope you will all support as we are going to give all profits away to charity.

The band are already playing at a Charity Gig in support of the Southend Hospital Cancer Unit on Tuesday 3rd July 2001 at TOTS 2000, Lucy Road, Southend On Sea, The other band playing on the night are The Receeders and there will also be guest PA's and a disco to enable you to dance away to the wee small hours.

Some people have said that they wouldn't be able to go to this gig because of work commitments (or through fear of feeling a little old to be seen at TOTS! ) so we have added a second date in support of this same charity at The Mill Hall on Friday 22nd June 2001.

Advance tickets are available from all band members for both gigs at £5 each (all profits to a very worthy cause!) or by e mail to elcojones@lineone.net or alternatively just turn up on the night!

Supakarma

Supakarma have got a gig coming up on the 27th of June at the roadmender. They're supporting a new Irish band called Relish. They have just been voted best Irish band in Hot Press. Previous winners included JJ72 and U2. The're are also on the bill for V2001. Check 'em out if you can.....

Introducing Broomfiller

We're a 3 piece punk-based heavy melodic alternative band from Toronto, Canada. we played on the VANS WARPED TOUR '00 this past summer, and the "KANAWHAPALOOZA" festival in Charleston, West Virginia. Currently, a band booker that saw us play at Kanawhapalooza, approached us after our performance, and is now in the process of booking us a tour of Ohio.

We're described as:

FOO FIGHTERS meets HELMET on a park bench sitting beside BRACKET. They all start making out until BLINKER THE STAR drives by and pics them all up in a van. They see FACE TO FACE hitchhiking along the side of the road and pick them up. As they drive along,....GOLDFINGER drifts in and out on the radio. Somehow, in someway, they all have one thing in common: BROOMFILLER.

We just recorded a new track called "Decide Inside", and you can here:
