Paper Cup Recordings and White & Black Distribution are happy to (finally) announce the long-awaited first release on Paper Cup - Songs: Ohia, recorded live in Italy one evening in Autumn of last year.
The high professionality of the collaborating engineers and the group itself have produced a recording that captures all of the intensity of Songs: Ohia in concert without the slightest sacrifice in quality; producing an emotional documentation and offering further inspiration to all of Jason Molina's fans worldwide.
Following 5 albums, and ten years of performing, Ohio born, Chicago based Molina offers this hour long album containing 5 never-before released songs, plus live versions of "Tigress" & "Being In Love" (from the album The Lioness), and "Cabwaylingo" (from the first Self Titled album)…all packaged in a beautiful fold-out digi-pack.
Extract from a live report/interview (Carl Johns/Chicago):
"…Molina surmounts the stage and eases into a rendition of "Captain Badass." Within 30 seconds, the conversation wraps up and he wins the whole bar with his soft strum and chant. "Songs: Ohia has the most loyal fans", Dez whispers as a gentle throng approaches the front. Their eyes never leave Molina, who stares blankly at the back wall. All at once, Songs: Ohia soars from austerity as Jason yells, "We get no second chance in this life" and his delicate strum becomes a chop.
These are the beautiful moments of Songs: Ohia, when Molina lulls his audience and then vaults to a louder and more base telling."
To Molina: What about pets? Are you a dog person?
M: "I've had dogs, cats, and birds. They tend to eat each other"
Track listing: 1. Untitled, 2. Untitled, 3. Tigress, 4. Being In Love, 5. Untitled, 6. Untitled, 7. Untitled, 8. Cabwaylingo.
Songs: Ohia albums available: "Self Titled" (1997), "Impala" (1998), "Axxess & Ace" (1999), "The Lioness" (2000), "Ghost Tropic" (2000) - All on Secretly Canadian Records (USA) -

Thurrock Underground Music Festival,
Orsett Showground (off A13), Essex
Saturday August 4, 2001
Tickets £8 on the gate
http://www.thurrockmusicfestival.com
Two new bands are playing the festival: KOURNOKOVA - did you hear them on
XFM tonight? - and X-POSURE. X-posure are at the Leeds and Reading
festivals on the Carling Stage with Gay Dad and Hefner - check them out at
Thurrock for a fraction of the cost... and help Little Haven children's
hospice, Leukaemia Research and St John's Ambulance (this year's festival
charities).
New sensation HEAT, a boy band that is storming onto the pop scene, are
making an appearance on the Blues etc stage. And LAUGHING SPAM, more the
type of band you'd expect on the Blues stage, have stepped into the breach
after one of the Cadillac Kings had an injury forcing them to reluctantly
cancel.
Kilkus have split. They tried to find a suitable guitar player so they
could play Thurrock but have just announced that they are pulling out of
their headline slot on the Frantic stage. They'll be missed, but we've a
brilliant metal lineup for all you headbangers, with Whoremoan stepping
into the main frame in their place.
Lyrical Lush will be broadcasting their uk garage stage live across the
world in conjunction with Total Underground. See www.totalunderground.com
for more information.
Lyrical Lush have just confirmed another top class DJ/ Producer ... Francis
James.
