Phreeworld live at the Sky Church

As of 10/26, Phreeworld has climbed to the #8 song on the mp3.com charts. Yes...that means out of **all the songs on mp3.com - Phreeworld has shot up to the 8th position in the charts. This is unprecedented for a Progressive Rock band.

Check it out here: Mp3.com Top 40

Phreeworld has also released 2 more songs from their 3/11/01 Experience Music Project show in Seattle. "Wardrums" and "The Hermit". Wardrums is a bit of a "rocker" and The Hermit is intense and mellow...

Sweet Pickle Music

Hey Everybody! We’re back from our first international Sweet Pickle Music Showcase with great news! Check it out:

• Artist Ripley Caine wins international demo derby. That’s right. Our own Ripley Caine wowed an international panel of judges from the U.K., U.S. and Europe with her new three-song demo. The winning cut: “Monkey in the Middle”, chosen by the audience after the panel deadlocked. They liked the demo’s production and sharp songcraft. Congrats, Ripley! And watch for more developments on her upcoming cd!

• Sweet Pickle Showcase captures emerging Chicago sounds. ANTJE, Ripley Caine, Joy Eden Harrison, The Twigs…all were part of Sweet Pickle’s successful Friday, Oct. 19 showcase at Amsterdam’s famous Melkweg Theater. Look for video footage and European press reviews in the coming weeks on our website – www.sweetpicklemusic.com.

• ANTJE shows the band can hustle. Maybe you missed the start of ANTJE’s on-air and Web simulcast from Netherlands #1 radio station VPRO on Friday, Oct. 19 due to a scheduling problem. Here’s why the time got changed: The French band originally slated to play before Antje was late to the radio studio, and then needed to smoke weed and eat Burger King takeout before playing. Ever-punctual ANTJE showed 45 minutes early and got asked to hit the studio stage right away to avoid a “crisis.” Within 10 minutes of arrival, they hit the airwaves. We promise to post audio and video on www.sweetpicklemusic.com as soon as we get it.

Watch for the November issue of Sweet Pickle Music News where we’ll have more details, developments and news from the Sweet Pickle European Adventure! Thanks to everyone who participated! All of us in the Sweet Pickle family should be proud!

The Showcase will feature five of the best Anonymous Groove acts, who will be merging their sets to create a non-stop three hour long showcase of the best live music in the North. Bands performing on the night include:

Mahwa - funk and reggae grooves, a dirty rhythmical shakedown

Oslanki - live electronic vibes with bass, drums, guitar, keys, sax, dj, and mc layed over experimental sequences
Formidable Charlton - time travelling and telepathic, a gathering of grooving vampires rock the galaxy, entertain and communicate a higher purpose. This is the birth of sci-funk
Kato - a mix of powerful bass-end dub with hip-hop roots and psychedelic guitar

Acacia Avenue

Sheffield pop-punksters acacia avenue played an away game in London [recently] and beat 3 local bands at The Fountain Music Venue’s Battle of The Bands. Home advantage and a good crowd of their own supporters could not win the game for the cheeky cockney chappies who were outplayed and outclassed by this team of Sheffield’s finest.

Mike Lumb (drums/defence) kept it tight at the back and gave his team-mates room to play. John Hague (guitar/midfield) dominated the game while the superior finishing of James Fox (bass/striker) rounded off a wonderful team performance.

Big Bazzer (acacia avenue fan) said ‘I follow the lads home and away and to see them beat the opposition in their own backyard was just brilliant. Can’t wait to see who we get in the next round’.

That next round will be played in January, away in London again, with date and opposition yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, back in the league, acacia avenue play Sheffield Uni Thurs Oct 25th and Leeds HiFi Club Tues Oct 30th
