SUBWAY JOURNEY ALBUM LAUNCH

Tuesday 10th September @ The Boardwalk, Sheffield, 8.00pm - 12.00am

A night of cool and sophisticated dark jazz and beats.

This is going to be the only chance you get to see this band for a long time and I can tell you it'll be an experience!

SUBWAY JOURNEY is a 15-piece band made from Piano, Bass, Drums, Double Bass, Cello, Violin, Guitar, Vocals, Horn, Trumpet, Sax, Flute and Percussion. The musicians all come from an eclectic mix of bands in the Sheffield scene such as Morello, The Tranceplants, Nailstorm, Chicken Legs, Princess Dando, Black Coffee etc...

Based on the cool dark instrumental jazz of the 1970's from such artists as David Axelrod and Lalo Schifren and with modern influences from garage and ska-punk to Air and Zero 7, the band's sound could be best described as a fusion of Jazz, Classical and Breakbeat.

This is a night not to be missed with over 33 musicians performing in 3 bands throughout the night! Support comes from NAUTILUS, an 8-piece jazz funk band and THE CATCH-IT KEBABS, a 9-piece ska-punk band.

THE MUSIC

BRONNT INDUSTRIES KAPITAL
The product of a painful and abusive love affair between Max Webertron (from Dusseldorf techno pioneers Meine 909) and Klauss Wickermann, a German born librarian from Guildford. Initially commissioned to produce soporific, piped muzak to be played in hospital trauma wards, the pair quickly moved into the darker realms of blackened beats and suicide soundscapes after Webertron's violent religious conversion to the Church of the Shadowchrist.
"Bereavement Fetishism, Dead Magician, Surgical Steel, Thought Rape, Rotten Wig, David Hasselhoff"

MORNINGSTAR SMALL ORCHESTRA
Strong songed European blues and country laments arranged with panache. Morningstar's Greatness appearances are unmissable.
"yes stay and i'll move you and i'll lead you anon for you have a body and i have a song"

PATRICK DUFF BAND
Incredibly passionate and intense songs from the ex Strangelove and Moon singer featuring his new line up of keyboards, double bass, and harmonica.
"I saw birds flying from out of her mouth and across a still morning. Carried skywards I held the penny in my hands and it was love."

ARTISTS UNITE FOR PEACE ONE DAY

PEACE ONE DAY - THE CELEBRATION
BRIXTON ACADEMY, LONDON
21 SEPTEMBER 2002

Peace One Day will be holding an intercultural celebration at the Brixton Academy in London to mark the UN International Day of Peace...'a day of global ceasefire and non-violence', now fixed in the calendar as 21st September annually. 1 Giant Leap, Faithless, Nitin Sawhney, Rhianna, Starsailor, UNKLE (DJ set) and Zero 7 will all be performing on the night. Dave Stewart & Jimmy Cliff have written a special song entitled Peace One Day to mark this historic celebration. Badly Drawn Boy, Damon Albarn and Sugarbabes have all recorded a special message for the night.

Peace One Day in September 1999 was launched to a mere handful of individuals and organisations; it now has the support of countless individuals, organisations and governments across the world. Peace One Day is honoured to receive a special video address from: UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan which will be broadcast at the Brixton Academy and a special statement will be read from His Holiness The Dalai Lama. Speakers will include Secretary General CARE International, Guy Tousignant, Sean Pertwee, Jonny Lee Miller and Jeremy Gilley, Founder of Peace One Day.

Peace One Day is asking the people of the world to honour and celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace as a day of global ceasefire, and non-violence, Jeremy Gilley says "It is vital that we, as global citizens, respond to this call to action, and demonstrate that this starting point for peace, established by the peoples, has the active support of the peoples. This Day belongs to all of us and was fuelled, above all, by people's imagination and creativity." Commitments from across the world to date have been wide and varied, from a Peace Festival in Taiwan to a musical concert in Mexico City for 20,000 people and 1500 young people forming a human peace petal in Wembley, London. Highlights of activities taking place throughout the world on the Day and a short Peace One Day film will be shared with the audience at the Brixton Academy, and will reach thousands more through a live web cast at http://www.peaceoneday.org
