The Brown Indian Band has been formed by virtuoso bassplayer Colin D'Cruz and features Indian classical musicians in concert with jazz musicians. Indian classical music is similar to jazz in the sense that they both involve musical improvisation. Whereas Indian classical music is linear, using just one scale
(raga) to improvise within a composition, jazz offers a much broader palette for improvisation with multiple scales used to improvise through complex harmonies.
Indian classical music however, has some of the world's most complex rhythm structures and quarter tones that take the sound of music way beyond the western twelve tone scale. The Brown Indian Band incorporates the best of both forms of music to create a very funky sound of world music. The band has floating personnel that very often features international jazz artistes alongside legendry Indian classical musicians. Sample sounds of the band can be heard at http://www.hullocheck.com/brownindian

NEW SINGLE BY BRANDY - 'AFRODISIAC'
|
'Afrodisiac', is the new single by stunning soul sensation, Brandy. Set for release through Atlantic Records (formerly eastwest) on October 4th, it is the follow up track to her recent UK top 10 smash, the Kanye West produced 'Talk About Our Love' also nominated for an MTV Video Music Award (Best RnB), this year. 'Afrodisiac', the Timbaland produced album title track, is the second single to be lifted from her fourth collection of songs and first new music since her 2002 Full Moon set.
Already a hit in the clubs, 'Afrodisiac' is enjoying radio support from the likes of Trevor Nelson and Steve Sutherland. The video produced by Matthew Rolston (Mary J Blige, Maxwell, Madonna) features a very sexy Brandy who is
very much in control.
Brandy's album AFRODISIAC is her most personal work to date. With Timbaland steering the sonic grooves, a number of other studio wizards lend their production talents including Kanye West, longtime Timbaland collaborator Walter Millsap III who also co-wrote a number of the album's songs, Atlanta's world-renowned Organized Noize Productions (TLC, OutKast, Ludacris), and Ron "Nephew" Feemster (Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z) & Big Chuck (Jay-Z).
Among AFRODISIAC'S many highlights is 'I Tried' inspired by Britain's very own Coldplay. The track incorporates lyrics from the group's 'Sparks'
(found on their debut album, PARACHUTES) as well as a sample extracted from another British group, Iron Maiden. Raw and provocative, the track is among Brandy's favorite songs on the record. "You can hear the experience,"
she says. "It's about me listening to the Coldplay record at home, by myself, reflecting on what's happened to me and my relationship." Brandy's affection for Coldplay can also be heard on "Should I Go," which includes elements of the band's classic 'Clocks.'
Since making her eastwest/Atlantic debut a decade ago at the tender age of 15, Brandy has been the consummate modern artist. She is a charismatic and multi-talented performer whose gifts span the creative spectrum. Now, with her eagerly anticipated new album, AFRODISIAC, the Grammy Award-winning star has put the focus back on her true passion - music.
