Within the town of Croxley Green, on the outskirts of NorthWest London is a drinking house called The Sportsman.

At this friendly pub, there's a chap to be found, called Rat and he IS Rat Promotions. Now, Rat runs some extremely successful folk and blues jam sessions and I was fortunate to witness one.

The place was comfortably full when I arrived, which became really very full, as the punters and musicians turned up. It became apparent that this was a very popular event and I must say, it's one of the best blues jam sessions I've seen. Nicely run with willing participants with a variety of styles. All topped of with a billed house band. The audience was in good humour and was very much involved with what was going on.

It was great to see everyone really enjoying themselves, everyone seemed to know one another and it was all very relaxed. I felt welcome, as various people came up to introduce themselves to me and chatted about this and that.

I would highly recommend punters and musicians alike who enjoy a bit of Blues or folk to get on down to The Sportsman'. However, I must warn you that it can be a bit tight in there, I do hope that this review will not overwhelm the poor landladies of the pub.

The house bands at the jam sessions are posted up on our gig guide so check it out. The Folk Jam is every third Sunday afternoon of the month and the blues jam is every last Sunday afternoon of the month.

Go and enjoy.
