The Club With No Name, Peterborough
Last night with an excellent line-up at the Club With No Name it felt like
the whole place had just come to life, the floor, the tables the ceiling the
walls the place had a real buzz to it which wouldn’t have been made possible
if it wasn’t for the quality of the bands on show.
First up to test their strength once again with the CWNN audience was one of
my favourite local acts Tic. This is one band I could never actually
describe to you because they aren’t punk, funk, trance, indie, grunge,
metal, pop, it’s simple, they‘re it all, mixed into one big musical
concoction.
This band pulled off some real upbeat, mellow at times, funky but deep songs
that made you just want to get on that dance floor scream and go mad. The
music certainly gets your adrenalin pulsing through your veins with some
fiery guitar sounds, profound bass lines, eccentric synths, refreshing
percussion and some excellent obscure dance moves brought once again by Dan
Kerr who between him and Phil have some real influential, different sounding
vocals that just fit nicely on top of their creative music collage.
I have two words to say about Kaito and they are "F'ING SUBERB". This band
totally rocked!
Kaito, the 4 piece from Norwich are Nikki and Dave : Vocals and Guitar,
Gemma : Bass and Vocals and D : drum and some vocals.
This is one band that certainly know what noise their instruments make and
use that to their full potential to bring us some real sweet, rock based
sounding indie/punk melodies. Some bands you just can’t describe you really
have to go and see them and this is one of them.
They pulled off a well received performance that had the mosh pit biting
from the word go. With some odd riffs, nitro guitars, good FX and some
phenomenal drumming that was tied into a series of rolling bass lines, Kaito
stole the night! Kaito show much skill and experimentation in their work
giving it that raw bizzarre edge that just makes you beg for MORE...
Time flies when you're having fun and next on show was the band everyone was
waiting to see Mika Bomb, who have recently signed to the Grand Royal, yes
that of the Beastie Boys and At The Drive In. Mika Bomb kicked into
submission with some catchy tunes from Contact Tokyo, Magic Boots to Heart
attack. The band was full of energy with a good stage presence that kept the
audiences attention glued, especially the male populace. They all showed
strength through a series of interesting riffs, meaty bass lines and
beguiling percussion to bring this fine pop punk rock sound. The vocals were
a bit irritating at times as they seemed to stay at one level (tone). Expect
Mika Bomb Dolls, Jelly Babies and Computer Games in a store near you soon ;)
