Pink Fraud are no ordinary covers band - If you go to see them play, one thing you can be sure of is that you can expect a lot more than the sterile copies thrown at us by some of the other bands out there. Pink Fraud have always made a real effort to emulate their idols - not only do they sound like Pink Floyd, but they look like them and act like them too.

We last caught up with this unique act over a year ago, so we thought they were well overdue for a proper interview to let you know what they are doing now. There have, of course, been changes since our last article - so are they still drawing the same crowds as before? The answer is a resounding YES:

KK: Phil has recently rejoined the team, so there have obviously been a few changes since we last caught up with the band last year. Who does what in the current line-up?
PF: Founder member Phil Burns, originally keyboard player has rejoined to play bass. Pete Heyward is still playing guitar, Sam Gillett is still playing drums and special fx, and the new boy is Phil Evans on keys.

KK: We would say that you try to elevate yourselves above the run of the mill covers bands out there by actually looking and playing like the original Pink Floyd. You also seem to make a lot of effort getting the lighting just right and making sure that your equipment looks authentic. How easy is it all to set up, and how close is your gear to the original?
PF: Over the last six months we have been playing at least once a week, so the setting up is now taking less time at every show. The Pink Floyd "Live at Pompeii" film has been the inspiration behind the gear, aswell as a lot of the live arrangements. We have scoured the country to buy all the WEM backline that appears in that film, and one of the WEM cabinets actually used to belong to Dave Gilmour and appeared in that film!

KK: How did the whole Pink Fraud thing come about? In our original interview, you said that it started out as a bit of fun and just went from there - could you expand on this a bit?
PF: It was an idea that I had, when I was back in College in Portsmouth, and then after moving to London in 1993, I found myself able to start trying to pull it all together.

KK: Still on the same subject, how did you all meet? You told us before that you come from all over the country - so how did such a widespread talent manage to come together into Pink Fraud?
PF: After moving to London, I found myself working in a variety of music shops and rental companies, and the people that I met in those places, ended up joining the band. I had always wanted to play the guitar in this band, and Pete started out by being in charge of lighting and fx, and general production management. Our keyboard player then decided that he'd had enough, and I then moved over to keys, and Pete moved forward to guitar......the core unit was born!!!!

KK: Where have you most enjoyed playing, and why?
PF: We did a big show in Bromley in 1997, which was an outdoor event. The stage was huge, so we were able to set up in the same way Floyd did, i.e with about 10ft between us all! There was a lake between the stage and the audience, who sat in a stone ampitheatre type thing. That was an enjoyable show because of the setting. We enjoy all of our gigs really, the audience reactions make it all worth while...

KK: Do you have your regular fans - "groupies" who follow you around wherever you go? After your Fat Paulys gig last year, we heard that the fans were phoning you up asking you to come back - what's it like to be in the spotlight like this?
PF: We get a lot of email through the website, requests for private shows etc. We have recently had people at gigs ripping down our posters and asking us to sign them!!!! We are just glad that the Floyd fans like what we do, and they acknowledge that our representations are 100% accurate.

KK: Do Pink Floyd know about you, and if so what do they think?
Pete has met Nick Mason (drums) and played him our interpretation of Echoes. He was most impressed and actually expressed an apology that Sam had to play his drum parts!!!

KK: Is there anything else you would like to update our readers on?
PF: We are currently looking to expand our pool of "Floydheads" to operate the lighting rig. Applicants must have knowledge of the material, and know how to push buttons and faders!! Knowledge of PA and Backline would be a bonus. Please apply to info@pinkfraud.co.uk.
