After the smoke filled, over heated and over crowded Fat Pauly's of Norwich, Subvert's many fans finally gave up the encores and we were able to have a chat...
Subvert have only been around for two and a half years, in this time they have featured in Kerrang! and Metal Hammer as well as setting up their own record label 'Blank Canvas records'.
Subvert music can only be described as aggressive UK hard-core rock... Rahh! The line up for this loud foursome stands as: Jim-vocals; Rick-bass; Nick-drums and Ruben-guitar. Mind you, even though they take they music very seriously, playing all over the UK, they still have their day jobs. Jim the office boy in Purchase Control, Nick working for a book wholesaler, Rick working in a factory and Ruben who runs the 'Blank canvas Records'.
However, if this lot offer you a lift, you may want to turn it down. Last time this lot went to Preston about five miles back home to Norwich their van died. It took ten hours to get towed back and they found that they had completely written off the van… well done chaps!
Subverts ambitions in the music industry is to have a really good underground following and for their heads not to inflate to the point that they can't get through doors.
At some point we were discussing humorous disasters. Ruben, I was told had a little accident, it was a bad night anyway as they were supporting an Oasis cover band at The Twist, Colchester. Ruben was sound checking that night until he noticed the flames coming out of his amp… OOPS!
So what advice have Subvert got for you? A little too serious as Ruben speaks for the rest of the band ' Don't wait for any favours, do it yourself otherwise it won't happen' (heavy… man)
I always like to end on a more amusing note and what better than to ask them what they have in their pockets? Well, Jim had a packet of sweaty Rizla and a soggy tissue and Ruben found a KlubKat magazine… Well, what else would you rather have in your pocket?… a master CD for their compilation and a girls Travel Card… What are you doing with that you naughty boy Ruben. He also found a screwed up piece of paper, that happened to be a reminder of when he was to start his Jury Service, unfortunately it was last Monday! Is he going to be busted big time? Going down…
Cheers chaps for a brilliant night out and for the kick start! (OK, it's not just them you should think twice about hitching a lift with!)
