After Witnessing the guitar squall and vocal histronics of bad, bad brummie girls 'Twist' at The Twist (ho Bloody ho) on this balmy summer evening, my ears were crying out for more.
They float on, and with no warning whatsoever a wall of guitars is immediately erected, which threatens to knock down the post which annoyingly blocks the stage. Songs fly past at an alarming rate. Singer Emma Fox (you couldn't really make it up) flicks her blonde hair, bawls and brashes her Fender with a style and shimmy that belies her tender years. It's like courtney never happened. Guitarist Vanessa manipulates a guitar that appears to be bigger than she, with a force that is astonishing. Bassist Lisa looks like a rabbit in the headlights, whilst drummer Leanne adds powerful drumming and taut backing vocals.
Twist are working their way to the forefront of all-girl rock in this country. They are determined to do things their way, and as long as they produce such gems as current single 'Shari Says' no doubt they will. Twisted post-grunge never sounded this good so look out for them on their tour in September.
