So here we are again, in the company of Mr Westoby's Animal Band. Paul: lead vocals, Kevin: drums and backing vocals, Jimmy: guitar and vocals, and Andy: bass guitar.
This time they had a challenge. There wasn't going to be the planned support band. No support band meant more time on stage which could've meant not enough material to play.
Paul rushed off muttering about 'Stonehenge' and we didn't think much of it, it's what you expect from Paul. Then we got thinking: was 'Stonehenge not just a group of stones but also a group of a musical kind. Perhaps a 'Band', perhaps they knew of a band they could call upon to save the long, long night ahead.
We were wrong. It was in fact a piece of scaled down 'Woodhenge' dappled in a stone like effect. He set this up, and placed a microwave upon 'the henge' along with some milk and various other bits and pieces.
Was Paul going to do his very own cookery demonstation? No! He announced that they were going to 'blow things up'. We just knew we were in for an interesting night.
As it turned out it was a great night! In between songs they put something else into the microwave to see what would happen. The punters were taking things up to see what would happen, one thing being a pack of pork scratchings, which burn by the way, very effectivly with flames etc! They also put in a light bulb which lit up for several minutes. They exploded eggs and ended with a carton of milk. This turned out to be a bit dull, we were expecting a lot more mess. Boooo!
This was interlaced with their set...Paul said they were good at trashing songs. I wouldn't agree with that, I feel that they are great entertainment and they project themselves very well. The band are extrovert. The use of the microwave underlined that and helped draw the audience into their act.
They claim the microwave is now a new member of their band. It did go down well. Well done lads!
