Bent with Light is the electronic, acid sound of sTeVie7 (must get those capitals in the right place) of Ohio. It is quite unlike anything we've reviewed before, sitting firmly into the bizarre world of "experimental" sound.

sTeVie7 has a lot of work behind him, and you can hear the evolution of his music by visiting the website - I suggest you look for "Bent With Light" in the US band links directory and click through from there, as I have been getting a "page not found" error whenever I type it directly into my browser recently, even though what I'm typing seems to be the correct address.

It has taken us a while to get around to this one, mainly due to the fact that the sound of Bent With Light is so unbelievably different from the mainstream that it was difficult to know what to write.

When we first received an MP3 for review, we weren't at all sure what to make of it - and, to be honest, we weren't that keen (one of my friends had a listen and commented that she thought it sounded like the sort of thing her three year old daughter produced by banging the keys on her keyboard - not exactly a glowing report!) As far as I'm concerned, however, the arrival of the full length CD one winter morning has converted me - once I got it to play. It didn't work in my PC's CD-Rom drive, the computer simply spitting static at me (perhaps because somebody has chosen to colour the little silver disk black with what looks like gloss paint) but luckily my stereo system wasn't quite so fussy and I was able to listen to it in the comfort of my home later. And this is where I started to appreciate what sTeVie7 is doing for the music world.

Some tracks on "Random Discharge" are much better than others, but with a title like that for the album you pretty much know what you are getting. There are ten "tunes" here, and they all sound much more professional and well put together than I had been expecting based on our original experience with the MP3. Many of them would not feel out of place on the soundtrack of a big sci-fi blockbuster such as Alien, where they would be perfect as atmosphere or even as title music. Others are more suited to the industrial dance scene, and there are even a couple of tracks with (shock, horror) the occasional lyrics! Listen to the more sinister tracks in the dark and you can almost imagine things coming out of the woodwork to get you...

I have reviews of similar artists in the pipeline who have already had their work used for television, so there is nothing stopping sTeVie7 going a long way - the website has improved a lot since we first looked at it, and now showcases his work in a lot more detail. You are heading in the right direction, sTevie7 - you just need to get out there more and get noticed by the right people.

...And my favourite track, in case you wondered, is "Condemned" because it makes me want to find the nearest dance floor!!!
