So, who are the Photon Torpedoes? Those of you who have been surfing the KlubKat site will probably recognise the name from our overseas gigs page, where we are proud to have been listing their gigs for some time.

The Photon Torpedoes are based out of Boston in the USA, and describe their music as a mixture of Phychbilly, Punk and Horror - an interesting mix. They also have something of a sense of humour, as can be seen in the biography from the official Website:

"In January of 1999, nearing the millennium, The PHOTON TORPEDOES launched onto our planet Earth. These creatures bring news of UFO's from outer space, Female Vampires and Zombies.

Two remaining corpses of The Cyclones, Leo and Rick, pulled together to transform their energies to create a furious psychobilly scream. Boston's premiere psychobilly band sucks the life out of influences such as late 80's European style psychobilly, garage and punk with scads of energy and other influences of the new.

The PHOTON TORPEDOES discovered Alien Rob, from an Internet based psychobilly mailing list by reason of failed attempts to find the right people. Once the three beings intersected, it was apparent the launching was a success.

Leo, has now transmuted back to playing guitar after eight years; along with his first undertaking at vocals. He manifested from Ubangi 4 and Cyclones as an upright bassist. Now, with the PHOTON TORPEDOES he asserts the dirty Gretsch sound of his guitar and envisions some of the music and lyrics.

Ricky Magic, veteran drummer for many years, toiled from Post Mortem and The Cyclones bringing the PHOTON TORPEDOES barbarian, savage rhythms. Ricky Magic also has assisted in nurturing the genesis of the music and lyrics that turn up from Sci-Fi and B-Horror movies.

Newcomer, Rob slaps out extraneous rhythms emerging from psychobilly hell. He has muddled through exhibiting grave potential and concocts procreation to the music.

The PHOTON TORPEDOES first encounter with Earthlings was very successful. Since, they have booked future gigs, have a spot on a local cable station, will find themselves on Boston's first set of local band trader cards, and will be appearing on three compilations.

PHOTON TORPEDOES AWAY....!! "

Well, how can we possibly follow that? After much head scratching, we came to the conclusion that the best way to capture these guys conception of the universe and find out where they were coming from was to conduct an interview. Naturally, they totally messed with our heads. The following has been edited for reasons of taste, UK legality, and, sometimes, because we just plain didn't understand what the *$@! they were on about:

KK: Who does what in the band?
PT: [We have] Squeaky Lee on Guitar and lead vocals, Alien Rob on upright bass and vocals, and Ricky Magic on drums and vocals.
KK: Plenty of vocals, then, obviously. How long have you been together?
PT: We formed in January of 1999, so that makes it about a year and a half..
KK: We see you've made it onto the Boston Bands site, and we know from your gigs that you tour the New England area, but this area is huge... Where are you based?
PT: We are based in Revere, MA. USA, just North of Boston. We play everywhere and anywhere we can. We do lots of weekend stuff and have played in New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Philly, Baltimore, Maine and Vermont. We also toured Europe for 3 weeks last year.
KK: Your music is generally quite unique. Do you have any influences?
PT: We are influenced by horror, sci-fi and porn!!!! Some bands that have influenced us are Elvis, Motorhead, G.G Allin and El Duce.
KK: Taking it for granted that you all arrived from Space or Phychobilly Hell, How did you get together?
PT: Squeaky Lee and I played together in the Cyclones. When they broke up we got together and formed the Photon Torpedoes with Alien Rob. He was referred to us by a friend over the internet. Things clicked right away (no pun intended - ed) and we have been playing together since.
KK: Any interesting stories you would like to share from your time here on Earth?
PT: We think farts are really funny. Ricky Magic likes to beat off in socks. Squeaky Lee is capable of producing the worst smells from his body. He is known as "the King of Stink". We also love midgets and cheap beer!
KK: Um, ooookay! Do you have any plans for the future?
PT: We will be featured on about 6 compilation CD's which will be coming out in different countries over the next few months. We will be returning to the studio next month to record a 7" 45 for Baby Doll records. We will also be making a video for the song "Kill Baby Kill". We also have songs appearing on a few independent horror films. We will be recording a full length CD in the fall so shop around.
KK: Anything else you would like to add?
PT: Thanks for the interview. If anyone is interested in booking the band or releasing any of our material, please feel free to contact us. Thanks!
