BORDERLINE, LONDON

The Serious Hat Band were being good Samaritans when launching their latest album at The Borderline, London. All the proceeds from the launch party of their album 'Don't Rush Me' were going to The Samaritans.

The lead singer Ed Dawson has personal reasons to support the charity, as Ed's older brother committed suicide a few years ago and he wanted to help improve the image of the Samaritans.

This really talented bunch of musicians originated from East Anglia and are now based in London, doing rather nicely. The band comprises of Ed (lead vocals and guitar), Steve (vocals and drums) and Barrie 'Baggy Trousers' Towser (vocals and bass) who incidentally had only been playing with the band for six days, when I heard them. They play their own stuff as well as covers and describe their music as 'pop for the thinking man' (or is that the drinking man). What ever it is they play, they play it well.

They do take their music seriously thus you get a great performance. However, they don't take themselves seriously which make them really likeable but most importantly they take their fans seriously so they have an enthusiastic following.

We can't forget to mention the most famous member of the band 'Hadley' the dog who overseas the stage and wooos the affections of the female members of the audience (and a few of the fellas).

The Borderline was packed with their dedicated follower's and the atmosphere was extremely warm and friendly both with the band and the punter. Everyone was happy to be there and happy to part willingly with their hard earned cash for the charity.

I really enjoyed my night at the Borderline and my chat with Ed. The Serious Hat Band raised over £1000 for The Samaritans that night. I hope to catch up with them again soon and maybe I will see you there?
