"We played till it began to rain. In one hour all the equipment was packed away and we disappeared with a well deserved amount of money."

It was Queens Day in Alkmaar, in the Netherlands when we stumbled upon this band. This is a day on which it is customary to celebrate the former queens birthday by buying, selling, drinking and being merry. Everyone goes into town and turns the whole area into a huge carboot without the cars! If you have nothing to sell you buy, if there's nothing you want you drink. And you do all this while wearing all things orange.

Anyway, back to the band. Amongst all the stalls were Lynx, doing their bit to entertain the crowds. This young band was in fact very good and had a gathering of an appreciative audience.

Lynx is a five-piece band with a very devoted manager Mischa who appears to be the driving force. Nick, the vocalist, has been in the musical Chess 2000. On the Drums there is Johan, who is also a vocalist, and the Bass guitarist is Sjoerd but he's probably going to move on due to study. Jeroen is the youngest of the band at just 15: He plays the Keyboard and is also a vocalist. Jasper is the guitarist and is also the oldest at 19.

Again it is proven that there are young talented bands out there, who are prepared to organise themselves into doing some quality work. Lynx plays rock hits mainly from the 80's and 90's by groups such as Europe, Van Halen and Golden Earring. And keeping to the same style they also throw in a few songs of their own for good measure.

KlubKat: How long have you been together?
Lynx: Johan, Sjoerd, Jasper and Nick founded a band two years ago, because they played together in the musical Saucy Jack. Also other people were in the band, but because of miscommunication and bad feelings against each other Johan, Sjoerd and Jasper separated themselves from the band. They formed a new band: LYNX. Later on Jeroen joined the band, and since a few months ago Nick is back in the group again.

KlubKat: Where are you based?
Lynx: We are based in Alkmaar, the Netherlands.

KlubKat: What area do you play?
Lynx: We practise every week in the school Willem Blaeu of Alkmaar. We've got the space we need there, and we bring all the equipment ourselves. When we play in public, it is mostly in the open air, like on Queen's Day. We get our electricity from shops or people.

KlubKat: Who are your influences?
Lynx: Sjoerd is absolutely influenced by Metallica, Johan by Golden Earring, Nick by all artist who have a good voice, Jeroen by all the artists of the 80's, and Jasper by Queen, Yngwie Malmsteen and also music of the 80's.

KlubKat: How did you get together?
Lynx: In the beginning Johan, Sjoerd, Jasper and Nick met each other in the musical orchestra of Saucy Jack. They decided to form a band with other people. When this band broke up, Johan brought Jeroen to Sjoerd and Jasper, and LYNX was born. Then Nick made his come back in the band.

KlubKat: Do you have any plans for the future?
Lynx: Of course we all want to grow bigger in the future. In potential we have a great band, with good performers. But you know how it works in the music business. You have to be friends with the big men from the record companies.

KlubKat: Anything else you would like to add?
Lynx: We'd like to thank Mischa for the opportunity to play on Queens Day.

I hope this band manages to achieve some of their goals. Lynx has talent as well as enthusiasm along with a manager who has commitment to the band, with these three things they are starting with a firm foothold.

Well if you would like to try and catch up with this band I suggest you visit their website on http://www.lynxonline.tsx.org.
Webmasters Note: The site is highly complex, and contains a lot of clever visuals which take time to load - but it is well worth the wait.

Good Luck.
