Lemon was one of the bands we were invited to catch live at the A2A international music showcase in Amsterdam during October, and this gives us the rare opportunity to compare their live performance with that on their CD "Wallpaper".

Live, Lemon deliver an intense performance, full of stage presence. The act is well put together, the music catchy and the band professional throughout. On occasion, we caught the odd Beatle-like harmony thrown into the mix, and at other times we wondered if Pink Floyd had entered the room - for the most part, Lemon attempts to find the middle ground and this results in something we would best describe as soft rock.

Unfortunately, Lemon is a band lost among a flooded market for this genre. They are certainly above average and one of the better acts we saw during our time at A2A, but in the modern music world bands such as Lemon have a tendency to become overshadowed by many other similar acts which may not necessarily be as good at either singing or performing! What they really need is a "catch", something to set them apart from the crowd so that they can be noticed more widely around the world.

Listening to the CD, we noticed a couple of tracks which stood out for us. "Use all you got", immediately caught our imagination, got inside us and made us smile. This track, in particular, feels to us like Pink Floyd at times - where others provide more standardised rock sounds. "Not this one" is a track with energy, showing the band as performers. Neither came close to matching the live performance, and for us this is just more proof that a CD can't match the sound of a live venue. Both are good, but the CD feels sterile compared to the professional act we saw on the night.
