I witnessed Eugene Speed playing a 'low-key gig' at The Ferryboat Inn at Norwich one Friday evening at one of Nicks 'Rock The Boat' nights. This lot sure rocked the boat, everyone there didn't seem to expect something quite so... 'Glossy' as this three piece from East Anglia.
Yes, that's right for those who know Eugene Speed, they have reformed into a three-piece band. They've been busy writing new songs and have now brought out their single 'Easy Life'. The song if full of information about how they see life: TV, radio, religion and technology. To be honest, there's a slight bit of paranoia in their song, but to me, that's not a bad thing.
Unlike the usual single we have 5 songs to listen to all as good as the first. What I do like about their single, is that it's been produced in a way that you can hear their energy on the CD. If you close your eyes and put it on full to annoy the old biddy next door, it's almost as if they're playing live in your living room.
Not only do they have the talent, they also have the entire good boy rock glamour look about them, to go with it. Their new drummer is absolutely awesome, and they're no less tight on stage than on their CD. All I can say to you is why aren't you rushing down to your local record store right now and buying their single? Hugely great chaps.
