Self-titled debut 4 track EP

This is the debut release from new London talent 2G and friends, ably produced by Richard Robinson, which cuts through the often drossy UK R&B releases with a style that references the familiar US sound but remains distinctly British and treads its own path without treading on well known toes.

The unaccredited guitarist is also worth a mention, melding Spanish and Soul styles with apparent ease.

The first tune, Senorita, references old school 80's beats and cuts back to the stop/start beat popularised in the late 90's under a sumptuous vocal line and tasty acoustic guitar with fat backing harmonies. If this one wants daytime radio play, a clean version should be included.

Kicking into the beautiful if poignant mama comes a more strongly contemporary beat with still faultless vocals, deeply expressive in phrasing of individual lines, obviously deeply heartfelt and even a little melancholy.

Living without U offers more sweet vocal harmonies and soulful lyrics, with a trademark 90's record crackle added for atmosphere and very understated piano lines hiding in the mix - which are worth far more of a virtuosic spotlight, afforded the excellent guitar work in the other tunes. In fact, this track feels cut short by about 4 minutes. A more lengthy treatment, with instrumental passages would have only worked to its benefit allowing the worthy beats and superb musicians more room to flex their creative muscles.

This is above average fare with full and spacious production with tight lyrics that don't waste a word. If you can find this EP, buy it - If not, ask your local R&B shop why not!!!
