We had all pulled on our dancing trousers and were raring to go. Our tents were packed and a 'feel good' weekend was on it's way.

Or at least we thought it was but unfortunately the authorities had other plans. They decided to pull the plug at the eleventh hour. We didn't just loose a groovin', good time! East Anglia lost out on the start of their very own music festival. Local business would have benefited and the younger generation would have had something which was theirs.

It is said that Jo Marshall, the organizer of the event, failed to get a license and the plug was pulled on health and safety grounds. However, I understand that Jo applied back in April for a license, surely these issues should have been cleared up.

Jo tried to rescue the 'Gig In The Park' by taking the council to court on the Friday to try and overturn their late decision but the council didn't turn up. This meant that he couldn't fight against it. Jo had to then, reluctantly, abide by the councils decision, for had he continued his crew would also have been liable. Jo felt it wasn't his place to put his crew in that position so the 'Gig In The Park' was no more.

I feel that the council has let everyone down. I don't know the true reasons behind there decision. It maybe that there were failings on Jo's part or it maybe disgruntled neighbours to the festival, who didn't want it in their back yard. But whatever the reason I really feel it could have been handled a lot better.

I'm glad to say that it looks as if Jo hasn't lost faith, he plans to be back next year with another 'Gig In The Park'! We are lucky that we have people like Jo, who has a vision for this area. It's a shame that there are so many short sighted people around, who can't see the benefits of an event like this!
